Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS)

IMS is a physiotherapy technique used to treat symptoms of pain and tightness. It involves inserting a very thin needle into the trigger points of muscle. The needle is moved in and out of the trigger point to release muscle tension. IMS has been shown to safely:

  • Reduce muscle tone, spasms and tightness
  • Reduce pain
  • Increase blood flow
  • Improve mobility and function

What can be treated with IMS?

IMS can be used to treat any musculoskeletal conditions that are caused by muscle dysfunctions. These conditions include, but are not limited to:

  • Muscle tightness
  • Tendonitis
  • Neck and lower back pain
  • Muscle strains
  • Joint pain
  • Tennis elbow
